Ph.D. in Engineering Physics with 8+ years of R&D experience in semiconductor devices, thin-film technologies, MEMS/NEMS sensors, and wearable health systems. Currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Southern Mississippi, working on ONR-funded organic photovoltaic technologies.

01. About Me

I am a Materials Scientist and Device Engineer with a Ph.D. in Engineering Physics from Shizuoka University, Japan. My research spans the intersection of advanced materials, semiconductor device fabrication, and sensor technologies.

Currently, I am a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Southern Mississippi, working on an Office of Naval Research (ONR)-funded project to engineer thermally stable organic photovoltaic materials and devices. I investigate degradation mechanisms in multi-layer organic solar cell stacks using advanced characterization techniques including GIWAXS, Flash-DSC, AFM-IR, and more.

Previously, I developed an NIH-funded wearable smart ring for continuous blood pressure monitoring at the University of Pittsburgh, and designed MEMS/NEMS nanomechanical gas sensors at Tohoku University in collaboration with Mitsui Chemical Co., Japan.

02. Experience

Postdoctoral Associate @ University of Southern Mississippi

2025 – Present

Engineering Stable Organic Photovoltaic Materials & Devices ONR Funded

  • Fabricate and optimize polymer thin films and multi-layer organic semiconductor solar cells (PM6:Y6, Y5, Y7, L8BO) for both inverted and conventional devices.
  • Conduct GIWAXS, AFM, TEM, UV-Vis, AFM-IR, Flash-DSC, DSC, SEM, J-V measurements to investigate morphology evolution, phase separation, and degradation mechanisms.
  • Correlate device performance degradation with thermal aging and room-temperature storage, identifying physical origin of efficiency loss and reliability limitations.
  • Optimize interfacial layers (ZnO/MoO₃/PDINN/Ag) to reduce burn-in loss and improve charge transport efficiency.
  • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in thin-film processing and device fabrication workflows.

Wireless Finger Worn Ring for Absolute Blood Pressure NIH Funded

  • Led development of a finger-worn smart ring for continuous, cuffless blood pressure monitoring.
  • Designed mechanical actuation systems using SolidWorks and 3D printing for controlled artery occlusion.
  • Integrated force, PPG, and IMU sensors with embedded electronics and custom firmware.
  • Developed MATLAB and Python pipelines for oscillometric BP estimation and real-time signal processing.
  • Conducted validation studies with human subjects under IRB-approved protocols.

Nanomechanical Si-Polymer Gas Sensor Mitsui Chemical

  • Designed and fabricated MEMS/NEMS nanomechanical gas sensors using photolithography, E-beam lithography, ICP-RIE, CVD, and sputtering in cleanroom.
  • Performed multiphysics FEM simulations (structural–thermal–fluid coupling) to optimize sensor geometry.
  • Conducted defect and yield analysis, improving device performance and manufacturability.
  • Managed technical relationships with global material suppliers and established SOPs.
  • Collaborated with industry partners to translate prototypes into deployable sensing platforms.
